A FEW YEARS AGO DURING A PERIOD OF RELATIVE PROSPERITY I BOUGHT THE CASING FOR A "C" TYPE GEARBOX AND THREW IT ON TOP OF THE MOTLEY PILE OF SHABBY PARTS TO AWAIT IT`S FATE.
RECENTLY THERE HAD BEEN NO FORWARD PROGRESS ON MY NEW BITSA FOR MANY MONTHS AND I NEEDED TO CREATE A CASH FLOW IN ORDER TO KICK START THE PROJECT AGAIN.
AS SO OFTEN HAS HAPPENED DURING THIS PROJECT, MY EYES FELL ON THE PERFECTLY GOOD "B" TYPE GEARBOX THAT I HAD PURCHASED FROM GEORGE DODDS ALL THOSE YEARS AGO. THINKING THAT IF I LET THE BOX GO, I COULD BUILD UP ANOTHER ONE FROM THE CASING THAT I HAD.
SELLING THE "B" BOX SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME BUT CAUSED ME SOME STRESS THAT WAS VERY UNWELCOME. THERE WAS A LOT OF INTEREST FROM POTENTIAL BUYERS AFTER MY AD WAS PUBLISHED IN THE BDC ADVERTISER AND I SOLD IT TO AN AMERICAN GENTLEMAN WHO I WAS LATER TO FIND OUT, DID NOT COME UP TO THE STANDARDS OF HONESTY AND DECENCY EXPECTED FROM A BENTLEY BITSA BUILDER.
A FEW WEEKS AFTER HE HAD AGREED TO PURCHASE THE "B" BOX AND WHEN I APPROACHED HIM ABOUT THE FREIGHT DETAILS FOR THE STATES HE INFORMED ME THAT HE HAD FOUND AN "A" BOX CHEAPER AND WAS NOT GOING THROUGH WITH THE DEAL.
UNFORTUNATELY, I HAD ORDERED PARTS AND SERVICES ON THE PROMISE OF THIS MONEY AND WOULD HAVE TO CANCEL THESE DEALS. THE OTHER OPTION WAS TO ACCEPT A MUCH LOWER OFFER FOR THE "B" BOX THAT I HAD RECEIVED, WHICH I DID.
THERE YOU ARE SNAKES AND FLIPPING LADDERS BUT THE RUNGS WERE ROTTEN JUST LIKE THE ANCIENT OAK LADDER THAT I HAD INHERITED ON THE PURCHASE OF MY FRENCH HOUSE AND THE SNAKE SILICONE COATED.
ON AN UPBEAT NOTE, I WILL BE COLLECTING THE NEW BONNET FOR MY EXP 2 CAR WHICH HAS THE 4 LITRE ENGINE INSTALLED AND HOPEFULLY GET THE ENGINE TO RUN DURING AUGUST.
